Executive Management Team

Ioan MacRae

Ioan joined the Group and the Board as Chief Executive Officer on 14 October 2019. Prior to joining, Ioan was Managing Director for the UK and Ireland of Avaya, a global leader in communications and he has held other senior leadership positions in the industry both within the UK and internationally. 

Prior to Avaya, he was General Manager, UK, Ireland and Greece for Westcon Group. Ioan has a wealth of sales and management expertise in the technology sector which is coupled with considerable experience in leading businesses through periods of sustained growth.

Mark Townsend
Chief Financial Officer

Mark is a Chartered Accountant having qualified with Price Waterhouse (now PwC) in 1988. He has extensive operational and commercial experience across fast-moving consumer goods, retail, construction and rental sectors. 

Previously he was group finance director at Livingston Ltd. During his time there, he assisted in a successful sale of the business to a PE-backed acquirer. Prior to Livingston, Mark was group finance director at Brogan Group for 5 years and has held senior finance positions with Oriflame Cosmetics SA and Pitney Bowes Ltd.


Rufus Grig
Chief Strategy Officer

Rufus joined Maintel in May 2016 as part of the acquisition of Azzurri Communications, where he was CTO. He has over 20 years’ experience in communications technology, predominantly in contact centre and unified communications and he has a keen interest in the impact of technology on the user and customer experience. 

Prior to his current role, he was Managing Director of UK Contact Centre software vendor Callmedia, which was acquired by Azzurri in 2003 and is now an active and thriving division of Maintel. In the even more distant past, he studied Physics at the University of Manchester. Rufus is an advisor to the Direct Marketing Association, a Fellow of the Institute of Telecommunications Professionals and a regular writer and conference speaker.

Dan Davies
Chief Technology Officer

Dan is responsible for the delivery, management and development of Maintel’s ICON cloud and network infrastructure and the Maintel software development team. 

Previously Director of Sales Operations at Maintel and Product & Solutions Director at both Maintel and Proximity Communications. Dan has a background in networking, customer experience and unified communications.

Simon Ward
Sales Director for Maintel Group

Simon joined Maintel in May 2016 as part of the acquisition of Azzurri Communications, where he was Head of Enterprise Sales. He has over 20 years’ experience in communications technology, and has worked alongside our largest customers in the deployment of often new and innovative technologies and the subsequent management  and development of their estates. 

Now responsible for the entire Sales function within Maintel, Simon is passionate about innovation, tackling business challenges, delivery of excellent customer service as well as staff and customer retention.

Gillian Bailey
Operations Director

Gillian joined the organisation in 2006 & has held a number of Senior operational roles,  currently responsible for Project Management, Provisioning & Operational Services.  

Gillian is passionate about driving a Customer first approach in Operations and ensuring that the services delivered look beyond the ever changing technology landscape to achieve key business outcomes for our customers.  The Operations function is one of the largest teams in Maintel and Gillian places a huge emphasis on our people through skills development, a wellbeing focus & various talent management initiatives.

Joanne Ballard
Customer Experience Director

Joanne joined Maintel in May 2016 as part of the Azzurri Communication acquisition and is responsible for the Customers journey and experience throughout Maintel, leading the Service Delivery Management, Internal Governance and Contract Management areas Joanne has over 25 years’ experience within communications and holds GDPR Practitioner, Lead Auditor and ITIL qualifications

Prior to Maintel, Joanne was Head of Business Process Improvement and Service Management for Azzurri and held lead roles within the Customer experience functions at BT and Cable and Wireless.


Hilary Tew FCIPD, MBA
HR Director

Hilary joined the organisation in October 2020 and has over 20 years professional experience.  Hilary is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and has extensive operational and leadership experience in various businesses and sectors including engineering, construction and manufacturing.

Hilary is passionate about partnering with senior teams to ensure the people agenda enables the business to deliver its objectives, creates a culture that is inclusive, open and honest and where people feel connected to the business and are supported to realise their full potential.

Meet some of our wider team

Paul Bulmer
Director of Product Management at Maintel

Paul is our Director of Product and brings to Maintel a wealth of experience in building innovative solutions to meet today’s business challenges. He has extensive experience in creating new business opportunities, delivering change and strong business performance, having spent 17 years in a number of senior product, proposition and business development roles at KCOM.

His last role being Head of Product and Proposition for the KCOM National business. Prior to that he has worked in various UK and international management roles at Cable and Wireless.  Paul recently completed an EMBA at SKEMA business school.

Mike Gatty
Head of Secure Connectivity  

Mike is our Head of Secured Connectivity – which is one of our key go-to-market pillars encompassing WAN, LAN & Security services. Mike is passionate about ensuring customer success in a market space that is currently very transitional with the trends toward public cloud services, software-defined networks, big data, IoT and secure compliance. 

Paul Fawcett
Mobility Product Manager

Paul has launched many innovative products and services targeted at both businesses and consumers. These solutions comprise mobile connectivity, devices, applications, UC, converged communications, voicemail, conferencing, roaming and international calling. 

Robert Smith
Product Manager - Security & Networking

Within Product Management, I have a track record of defining product strategy, product launch and ongoing service improvement plans across a broad portfolio of services including SD-WAN, Next Gen Security, Mobile (Enterprise Mobility, IoT, M2M) and Unified Comms.
