Chief Technology & Strategy Officer
Since joining the business in May 2016, Rufus is responsible for overseeing three key aspects of the business: Maintel’s product and service offering, in-house product development, and go-to-market strategy. Prior to his current role, Rufus was CTO at Azzurri Communications and was previously Managing Director of Callmedia.
Rufus is recognised as an industry expert in his field and is a frequent conference speaker, contributing regularly on the subject of the future of the telecoms, UC and contact centre markets.
Software & Cloud Technology Director
If there’s a ripe new technology to perfect and exploit, then Dan’s onboarding process already has it mapped in. Nothing gets by his eagle eye for detail, including any opportunities to prepare customers (and especially their user communities) for positive change. Dan joined the Maintel team as part of the acquisition of Proximity Communications, where he presided over some award-winning and record-breaking solutions. But he’s about more than technology; an out-and-out people person who loves consulting and believes that trust is earned and real relationships take time. He’ll always opt for the long view over quick-wins, by scrutinising which technology nuts and bolts can deliver true transformation, and translate into tangible business benefits.
Customer Experience Director
Czarina joined Maintel in 2018 to lead the companywide programme to continually improve the experience of our customers at every touchpoint – from prospect, through to order, onto delivery and into service. Czarina has over 25 years’ experience in customer service and experience roles, including being head of customer experience at Intrinsic, which Maintel acquired in 2017.
Operational Services Director
Gillian joined Maintel in 2006 and now heads up our Operational Services function comprising Managed Services and more than 200 technical implementation and support engineers. Gillian has recently re-structured the team so that both implementation and support specialists are brought together in teams focussed on particular technology or vendor specialisms.
Contact Centre Consultant
Christine’s troubleshooting skills and consultative instincts have brought immeasurable benefits to some extremely impressive multinational corporations. At Maintel she’s our oracle for all things ‘Workforce Optimisation’, and routinely pieces together fractured processes to empower enterprise contact centres to deliver excellent customer experiences that prove profitable and sustainable. Based wherever in the world she needs to be, Christine believes that no one should struggle to find the answer when they can ask an expert. But she’s equally passionate about equipping her customers to become autonomous, providing a solution that will grow with their business and digital world we live in; giving them the insight “to do it better”.
Managed Services Engineer
Leah joined Maintel in 2013 as an apprentice on the Institute of Telecommunications Professionals (ITP) “Telecommunications Engineer” programme. This saw Leah gain experience in every team within the operations function, desk-based, lab-based and onsite, as well as being combined with regular periods of residential education with other apprentices from around the UK.
Leah completed her apprenticeship in 2015 and was the runner up in the national awards for “SME Apprentice of the Year” in the same year. Since then Leah has continued to be involved in education, being engaged in the “Technicians Make It Happen” campaign, encouraging young women to consider STEM careers. Leah now works in Maintel’s Network Operations Centre as a managed services engineer, and is the current chair of Maintel Matters.
Head of Learning & Development
Ash joined Maintel in 2018 to establish and drive our learning and development strategy, with a strong focus on raising business performance through employee engagement and strengthened employee and leadership capability. With over 20 years’ experience and multiple industry recognised awards, Ash has a proven track record of developing talent and succession planning, and implementing large scale people development projects.
Presales Technical Consultant
Josephine joined Maintel in the summer of 2018 as part of the new graduate programme, which brought six graduates into the Group on an 18-month programme which will see them gain experience across the organisation and further develop their skills across multiple disciplines. Having graduated in mathematics from the University of Kent in 2018, Josephine is now working in the applications pre-sales team, particularly focussed on Avaya’s mid-market unified communications and contact centre offerings.
Head of Digital Workplace
Tim Hiscox has a long established career working in our industry, initially involved with the sales and marketing of personal computers and networks, it was only when he joined Microsoft in 2005 and joined the soon to be Lync programme that his interest in unified communications began. Since then he has focused almost exclusively on working with customers to improve their business outcomes by the implementation and adoption of innovative collaboration technologies.
At Maintel he is responsible for the Digital Workplace pillar which effectively means that Tim works with our customers and partners to help our sales organisation deliver the right strategies and technology platforms to our clients that will deliver them business or organisational success stories.
Head of Customer Experience
In his role as Maintel’s Head of Customer Experience, Derek’s focus is largely on contact centre services and solutions. Derek and his team are responsible for helping our clients realise their strategic customer experience objectives. His career, which includes over 20 years of experience, has involved both consultant and director-level positions and time working at Avaya, Eptica, and IBM,
Head of Secure Connectivity
Mike is our Head of Secured Connectivity – which is one of our key go-to-market pillars encompassing WAN, LAN & Security services. Mike is passionate about ensuring customer success in a market space that is currently very transitional with the trends toward public cloud services, software-defined networks, big data, IoT and secure compliance. He has been with Maintel for over a decade and has more than 25 year’s experience in the telecommunications industry having held senior commercial positions with Tier 1 Carrier’s and global integrators following a period as a large UK enterprise network manager.
John was appointed chairman of Maintel in 1996. He also chairs or
acts as a non-executive director of several private companies in investment management, telecoms and media and is a consultant to Herald Venture Partners. John’s earlier career was spent in equity investment and broking where he held various senior positions including Head of Equities at Bankers Trust and co-founder and executive chairman until 2011 of the Link Group, acquired by ICAP plc in 2008. He is a Fellow of Merton College, Oxford and a trustee of several charities in which role he serves on a number of investment committees.
Chief Financial Officer
Mark is a Chartered Accountant having qualified with Price Waterhouse (now PwC) in 1988. He has extensive operational and commercial experience across fast-moving consumer goods, retail, construction and rental sectors. Previously he was group finance director at Livingston Ltd. During his time there, he assisted in a successful sale of the business to a PE-backed acquirer. Prior to Livingston, Mark was group finance director at Brogan Group for 5 years and has held senior finance positions with Oriflame Cosmetics SA and Pitney Bowes Ltd.
Angus co-founded Maintel in 1991 and was the Group Sales and Marketing director until this role was assumed by Stuart Legg in late 2014. He now focuses on finding larger organic and inorganic opportunities as well as maintaining the relationships with our larger partners and the overall development of Maintel.
Chief Operating Officer, Data Protection Officer
Kevin was appointed to the Board on 1 January 2014. He joined the Group in June 2010 and has been a director of the main trading company, Maintel Europe Limited, since December 2011. He has worked in the communications and IT industry since 1981, holding senior operations and general management positions with Genesis Telecommunications, Xpert Communications, Redstone and Westcon Convergence, with a focus on improving business operations, efficiencies, process and customer service.

Stuart has been group sales and marketing director since October 2014 and has over 24 years’ experience in the telecommunications industry, focusing on delivering applications for the Nortel, CISCO and Avaya portfolios. Stuart was a part of the senior management team who sold Mettoni to Enghouse in 2010 and was a board member of Proximity prior to its acquisition by the Company in 2014.
Senior independent non-Executive Director
Annette was appointed to the board on 30 June 2014. She is also a non-executive director on the board of IPSE, the Association of Independent Professionals and the Self Employed and Gemserve Ltd, is a director of Women in Telecoms & Technology (WiTT) Ltd and a member of the Advisory Board of the National Media Museum. Annette undertakes
corporate finance advisory work with AHV Associates LLP and previously held the positions of Global Head of Telecoms Business Development at ING Barings, Managing Director of XchangePoint Holdings Ltd and she was a Senior Partner at the PA Consulting Group where she focused on strategy and marketing in the TMT sector.
Independent non-executive director
Nicholas has extensive experience of working with growing organisations, principally in the media and communications industries. He has worked as a consultant and in-house, in both an executive and non-executive capacity and has held senior positions - including both CFO and CEO - in both private and public businesses and in the not for profit sector. He is also non-executive chairman of Focus Group, a telecoms business, and a non-executive director of Zinc Media PLC.
