City & Guilds

City & Guilds are the UK’s leading awarding body; helping two million learners work towards one of its qualifications every year. City & Guilds wanted to procure a cost effective service and get more from their existing infrastructure.

They also wanted a long term strategic telecoms partner that could help take them on ‘the journey’ to a fully integrated unified communications environment, as they believe this is the best way to support their business objectives of enhancing staff collaboration and productivity.

City & Guilds chose Maintel to consolidate four existing telecoms suppliers (covering mobility, IP telephony, audio/video conferencing, calls and lines and support) into one managed service. They used Maintel’s insight service to understand how they could make immediate cost savings. This gave them the confidence to change to a managed service model, moving away from incumbent suppliers Vodafone, Cable & Wireless Worldwide, BT and Britannic.

Maintel then upgraded City & Guilds’ entire IP telephony network to the latest version of Mitel’s Communications Director software, giving all of City & Guilds’ staff standardised telephony features and the ability to ‘hot desk’ from any location, as well as access to a single global directory. Wi-Fi has also been installed into City & Guilds’ London headquarters.
