Baseline Emissions Footprint
Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions.
Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Emissions reduction targets
To continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, this plan sets carbon reduction targets for the 6-year period to 2030. During this time, targets will be set for the remaining period to ensure Net Zero will be achieved by our target date.
We are aiming to reduce our 2021 baseline by at least 90% from our baseline year or achieve (and maintain) a carbon intensity metric <1 tonne CO2e per employee, whichever comes soonest. This is in line with Net Zero targets. To keep ourselves on track with these long-term targets we have set the following goals:
- Reduce our scope 1 and 2 by at least 50% from our 2021 baseline by 2030
- Reduce our Scope 3 emissions by 30% from our 2021 baseline year by 2027
- Reduce our Scope 3 emissions by 50% from our 2021 baseline year by 2032
We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 374.11 tCO2e by 2029. This is a reduction of 38.54% from the 2021 baseline

Carbon Reduction Projects
Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives
The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2019 baseline.
The carbon emission reduction achieved by these schemes equate to 7,805.98 tCO2e, a 32%ge reduction against the 2019 baseline and the measures will be in effect when performing the contract. It should be noted that account has been taken for the period of the Covid 19 lockdowns which impacted the use of offices, and the reduction has been calculated excluding the lockdown periods.
Maintel maintains certification to BS EN ISO14001 and has committed to Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) with plans to have Scope 1, 2 and 3 target submissions verified in early 2023.
Our savings are achieved by;
- Implementing senor lighting throughout our office estate
- Removing gas supply from all offices
- Removal of fleet vehicles
- Introduction of ULEV salary sacrifice employee car scheme
- Agile working policy
- Supplier management and procurement policy update to use local suppliers where appropriate – predominately for employee gifts and marketing resources
- Travel policy update encouraging and recommending use of public transport for conurbation-to-conurbation travel
- Reducing single use plastics in office
Employed Environmental (and Social) Supplier
manager to assess critical suppliers and implement carbon improvement plans
where required.
In the future we hope to implement further measures such as:
- Complete full review of Scope 3 and work with critical suppliers to align carbon reduction plans
- Technical updates – complete move to cloud for corporate services
- Introduce full recycling and reuse options for customer products (circular economy)
- Provision of refurbished mobile handsets for customers
- Electrical monitoring with switch off in dark period
Declaration and Sign Off
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.
Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard13 and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting14.
Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions and, Scope 3 Business Travel have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard15.
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors (or equivalent management body).
