Unified communications help businesses to keep costs low

05/02/2010 08:43:45

An increasing number of businesses are deploying unified communications (UC) to help them lower expenses.

By transforming computers and business phones into a communications platform, UC software is helping to take voice over internet protocol (VoIP) to a new level, TMCnet reported.

Fax is being seen to play an increasingly important part in UC as fax over internet protocol (FoIP) is helping enhance organisations' communications.

FoIP technology is being used more by businesses as it offers them a high return on investment, enables sensitive information to be sent directly to the inboxes of other users and is also a greener alternative to other technologies.

According to TMCnet web editor Amy Tierney, FoIP helps users collaborate with other workers and share data, ideas and documents instantly.

Video conferencing is also on the rise, according to a new survey of 1,200 senior business professionals carried out by Research Now.

The majority of participants said they had used a video conferencing application, with 80 per cent in China and 60 per cent in both the US and South Korea revealing they had made use of the technology.
